This tough, HR Maxing training event brought out some great individual and team performances. Those were unrelenting climbs on run 1 and the bike It always set us all up nicely to leave the winter behind and sharpen up for the spring. Big thanks to Rosemary Neagle for organising and fantastic support from Caroline Waterhouse, Martin Waterhouse, John Anderson, Hazel Manson and all who baked food and cheered all particpants on. (Sorry if missed any notables) Results can be found on the run tab of the web site and photos on the club facebook page compliments of Bill Young. From Matt Watkiss, Lead Organiser, Scottish Sea Farms, Crinan Puffer 8.5 2013 Hello all, As you probably know the Crinan Puffer is on 21st April this year. 175 people have taken up the challenge! Thanks for supporting the event. For the event to go ahead we need marshals and volunteers on race day. Roles include; Marshalling at various points along the route to make sure folk don't stray off the course or need any help Help setting up tables/tents/gazeebo at the finish area (morning of the race day) Handing out goody bags Potential help at registration area - providing directions, helping move kit to the finish, helping drop off/collect marshals from the route Help at the finish to pack away Without a keen army of helpers we really struggle to do all the jobs ourselves. So if you aren't running please, please try and offer a hand, just drop me an email at

and let me know if you can help and what you might be able to do. Finally, we also need an army of cake and tray bake bakers to provide a feast at the finish. If you can provide any home baking for the event please email me. Once again a successful and popular event is made even better by the hospitality we provide. Every baking donation we get saves us money and it is that money that gets donated directly to local good causes. Even if you can't help on the day, a small box of cakes would be so appreciated. Please email me soon! Thanks Matt Kilmartin " Quarry Caper " Duathlon Sun 17th Mar -2.00pm Just letting you know that the much awaited return of the Kilmartin Quarry Caper will be held on Sunday 17th March. Reg time 2ish for a 2.30 start. If you are travelling from Lochgilphead side, go through the village and at the bottom of the hill turn left over the cattle grid just past Kilmartin garage. Follow the road straight ahead and you can't miss the quarry. Kevin did all the stats for us last night: Run 1-- 1.84miles and 395ft ascent (straight up for the first mile!) Bike--5.3 miles and 783ft ascent. Run 2--1.5 miles and 33ft ascent. It is a challenging but fun course as those who took part last time will verify. As I mentioned, the first run is a tough uphill on a wide forest track with the decent on a more grassy track. The bike route is back up the run hill then continue on forest track for around 2.5 miles. After a sharp dog-leg to the right you will be on a single track and eventually join a grass track through farmland for a short distance before it joins the Sus-Trans route back to Kilmartin. The last run is a straight out and back from the quarry to the primary school on the sus-trans track. Teams of 2 or 3 as well as individual entries are welcome as it is an informal training event at your own risk!! There will be soup and home baking to finish the day off...the ladies of Kilmartin are scanning their recipe books as we speak! If you are interested in taking part or want to know any more either ask Kevin in the bike shop or email me at:GREGNEAGLE01 @ aol.com or confirm your attendance on the events tab on clubs Facebook page. AGM and Social 23rd November 2012The event you have all been waiting for! 23rd November 2012, venue tbc. Come along, be riveted by the analysis of the accounts, marvel at points of order and be inspired by the proposal and seconding of Club Officers. This is why we pay our subs, train and compete so we feel we have the right to attend this special night. Afterwards there will be the less interesting bit about recognising the achievements of colleagues, blethering, discussing your latest injury, eating some great food and quaffing an ale or seven; again details tbc. Burns Supper was okay, but this will be stonking. Get the date in your diary and don't complain that you weren't told . Gastronomic excursion around South Cowal, 30th September 2012 Stalwart members of the club's cafe appreciation society enjoyed a beautiful day in the autumn sunshine cycling around the Portavadie, Kames and Tighnabruich peninsula. 20+ lumpy miles ensured that the frequent cafe stops were well earned. For those looking to keep the pace to the point where conversation is possible please keep your eyes open for details of the next ride. Likely to be an off road event given the time of year and weather conditions. If you have a favourite run with a stonking cafe stop let David Smart or Kirsty Young know.
