The Importance of "Brick" Training

Postby whizzer » Mon Aug 24, 2009 1:48 pm

I understand Mad Dog and Heron have been buddying up to get in some quality (secret  ) "Brick" training in their efforts to get faster and possibly beat certain members of the club in a local event in September ;)

So there little secret is out and once again they are scheming just like at the "Barrie Batard". its a wonder they have not sent any flyers out advertising blood donation events.

Still - this Thursdays cycling TT & Aquabike look like a good opportunity to gauge their progress

5 weeks and counting its all about sharpening & preparation - go on guys give the rest of the club some tips on how to cope effectively with the Bike to Run transition (only a 49.04 combined bike and run time to beat  )

a regular brick has to help
nothing secret about our training whizzer you could have come with us if you'd been around on Saturday and you're welcome to join us next time

on the anoraky side i wonder whether there is a way of carrying the muscle memory of the cycle leg speed (where your cadence must be much higher than any thing you would normally run at) into the run. difficulty is sustaining it i guess

if you're wondering what the dickens i'm talking about in the last post re leg speed/cadence try this next time you want to do wee training session.

cycle to barnluasgan, as you go up the hill try to stay in as high a gear as possible but don't get out the saddle, as the hill starts to level out keep pedalling hard and when you go over the top and have the wee descent to barnluasgan cross keep pedalling as fast as you can in a high gear. get off the bike at the forestry commission car park and immediately start running round the loch--see if your legs don't feel like going quickly as you begin running?
